The flail mower we hope to purchase
The ground may be frozen out there, and this week marked our last big harvest of kales and chard. But even on the coldest and wettest days, there’s plenty to keep us busy over the winter months, with planning and preparation for the year ahead. Each new year we aim to improve on the last—growing more veg for the veg bags, while also expanding and refining our range.
One of the real keys to making this possible is having the right tools for the job, and this is where our Friends of Moss Valley Market Garden have been so important over the years. Your support has helped fund vital pieces of equipment that allow us to work more efficiently and care for the land as well as we can.
This year, with your help, we’re hoping to invest in a flail mower—a mower that fits onto the front of our two-wheel tractor, as shown in the photo (top). From the experience of other market gardens, we know this will be a hugely valuable piece of kit, allowing us to clear beds quickly and get the next crops planted in double-quick time, keeping the momentum going through the season.
