Merry Christmas Everyone!

Happy Solstice and Merry Christmas

Seasons greetings from the packshed!

With plenty of bumper-sized veg bags to pack for the Christmas deliveries, this week has been a busy one. We’ve been chopping and sorting winter squash and red cabbage, as well as picking and bagging kales and fresh salads. Even so, in the hectic run-up to Christmas we always make time to stir our biodynamic preparations and spray them on the land, and to share a celebratory breakfast together.

So on Tuesday morning we arrived before sunrise, gathering to stir specially prepared ground silica in two buckets of water for an hour, in a steady, rhythmical way, before applying it to the garden as a fine mist.   This preparation is thought to enhance the plants ability to take in sunlight - something much needed at this time of year

It might seem a curious thing to do amid the hustle and bustle of Christmas, but we’ve come to cherish marking the season in this way—at dawn or dusk, close to the solstices and equinoxes. It helps us feel more deeply connected to the land and to the wider rhythms of nature and the cosmos. At a time when so much attention is drawn to the festivities of Christmas, it feels grounding to pause, come back to the earth beneath our feet, and reflect on the true source of our wealth: the generous bounties of creation.
